Spartans vs. Wolverines -4 The Michigan State Spartans are in a unique, one of the favorites at Michigan Stadium. As it stands now the State of Michigan is a 5.5 point favorite in the house standing Wolverines. That is a lot of respect for a team that stomped 45-7 at home against Ohio State has not beaten Michigan since 2001 and last won in Ann Arbor since 1990. Of course, you have to give respect to one of the two teams and, of course, Michigan has not won anything like that in this season as they lost their third straight game and lost four of their last five to fail a 2-5, 1 -2 record. The two teams battle on the field and off the field in recruiting. The fact that the Spartans (6-2, 3-1) has not won in the battle between the states may have heard of their enrollment in Michigan. Many supporters feel if MSU can not win in Ann Arbor this year, never will. Last week the Spartans hosted the Ohio State Buckeyes and were ready and willing to surprise 鈥 攗 till the first whistle. The Buckeyes dominated all aspects of the game, a first for them throughout the year and was an early 24-0 lead to 45-7 destruction. In East Lansing, a season can sometimes turn with a victory over Michigan and the fact that they still have a good set and record the conference, Michigan State believes it must win to continue his solid season. Years ago, when the Michigan Wolverines won the National Championship, the team met in the locker room to sing: "It's great to be a Michigan Wolverine, it's great to be a Michigan Wolverine 鈥?" It's a good bet that no the audience will refrain from the Michigan locker room this year. First year head coach Rich Rodriguez has struggled to get his players to perform well in the field, with the exception of the fourth quarter in their 27-25 come from behind upset of Wisconsin on September 27. The brightness of the victory that has been lost as badgers have been compounded by the Ohio State, Penn State and Iowa en route to four straight losses dating back to Michigan. Last week Michigan traveled to Happy Valley to fight the No. 3 team in the country, Penn State. Before that game, had dominated Michigan State University in Pennsylvania and had won nine in a row. All week Coach Joe Paterno said it was a mental thing Michigan, however, the Wolverines dictated the game from the start in the game, claiming a 17-7 lead until near halftime. With a mismatch, you can only suspect that the mental aspect plays a role, however, has more to Penn State, Michigan off the rest of the way and came to roll to the Wolverines 46-17. Michigan can only hope that you can get this mental edge over Michigan State, who is 2-8 in the last decade against the Wolverines and be capable of supporting at play in the Big House.
